There are two schools of thought on locking your allotment shed it seems.

One view is that a lock on the door is a sign to thieves that there is something worth stealing inside and that they might destroy the structure to find out.

The other theory goes that a lock is a deterrent to casual thieves and other inquisitive types, who will move on and pry into other sheds that aren’t secured.

To be honest we have no idea which of these views is the best option and must confess we went for a clasp lock as it was a bit of a bargain in a local closing down sale.

It’ll be interesting to see if that was the right choice.  Our allotment site is very well secured at the entrance gates anyway, so hopefully the whole thing is academic in our situation.
